  • spoon for mixing For combining the baking soda and water.
  • tray To contain any mess during the activity.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a bowl, combine 1 cup of baking soda with a few drops of water to create a moldable paste.
  • Optionally, add food coloring to the mixture to color your snowman.

Shaping

  • Use your hands to form three snowman-sized balls: one for the base, one for the middle, and one for the head.
  • Stack them carefully on a tray, adjusting the sizes for a perfect snowman shape.

Decorating

  • Add glitter or other decorations for eyes, a nose, and buttons. Be creative!

Creating the Fizzing Reaction

  • Pour 1/2 cup of vinegar into the top ball of the snowman.
  • Watch as the fizzing reaction begins! Kids will love the bubbling and popping sounds as the vinegar reacts with baking soda.

Notes

To create scented snow, consider adding a few drops of essential oils to the baking soda. Swap out white vinegar for lemon juice for a different scent and taste. Use different colored food dyes to create colored snowmen or a rainbow effect. Make a full mini snowman scene using multiple snowmen and decorations.
