  • 1 cup citric acid
  • 1/2 cup vinegar
  • food coloring (various colors) Choose your favorite colors for customization.
  • optional: glitter for sparkle Adds a fun touch!

Tools Needed

  • silicone molds (lava rock shapes) Any flexible silicone mold will work.
  • 1 bowl for mixing
  • 1 stirring stick or spoon
  • tray or container to hold molds

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a bowl, mix 1 cup of baking soda and 1 cup of citric acid. Stir until well blended.
  • If you want multiple colors, divide the mixture into smaller bowls. Add a few drops of food coloring and mix until the color is consistent.

Molding the Rocks

  • Pack the colored mixture tightly into your silicone molds, ensuring there are no air pockets.
  • If adding sparkle, sprinkle a bit of glitter in before pressing the mixture down.
  • Allow the molds to dry for at least 24 hours. The longer they dry, the harder they will become.

Creating the Fizz

  • Once the rocks are fully dried, carefully remove them from the molds.
  • Place your lava rocks in a tray and pour vinegar over them. Watch as they fizz and bubble!

Notes

Experiment with different shades of food coloring, add essential oils for scent, or use various silicone molds for different shapes. Store finished rocks in an airtight container to keep them dry.
