Ingredients

  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1 cup white vinegar Carefully pour to watch it fizz
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • ½ cup corn syrup Helps bind the mixture
  • various drops food coloring Mix and match for endless color possibilities

Preparation

  • Clear a work surface and cover it with newspaper or a plastic drop cloth.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of baking soda and ½ cup of cornstarch. Whisk until fully mixed.
  • Carefully pour in 1 cup of white vinegar and stir immediately as it fizzes.
  • Add ½ cup of corn syrup and mix thoroughly until smooth.
  • Divide the mixture into smaller bowls and add drops of food coloring to achieve desired colors.
  • Spoon the fizzy chalk paint mixture into muffin tins or ice cube trays, tapping gently to remove air bubbles.
  • Allow the filled molds to dry for 24-48 hours until solid.
  • Once dry, use paintbrushes or spray bottles to apply the fizzy paint to surfaces. Watch it fizz when activated with water.

Notes

For thicker paint, reduce the amount of vinegar. Store unused chalk paint in airtight containers to prolong shelf life.
