Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 3 cups sugar Regular granulated sugar.
  • 1 cup corn syrup
  • as needed Food coloring (optional) Choose your favorite colors.

Equipment

  • 1 clean jar or glass container
  • 1 stick or string for hanging (optional)
  • 1 saucepan
  • 1 stirring utensil

Instructions

Preparation

  • Gather all materials in a clean, clutter-free area.
  • In a saucepan, combine water, sugar, and corn syrup.
  • Heat on medium while stirring until the sugar dissolves completely. This may take a few minutes.
  • If you want colorful crystals, add a few drops of food coloring to the hot mixture and stir well.
  • Remove the mixture from heat and let it cool for about 10 minutes.
  • Carefully pour the solution into your glass container.
  • If using a stick or string, suspend it in the jar so it dangles into the solution, ensuring it doesn’t touch the bottom or sides.

Growing Crystals

  • Place the jar in a cool, undisturbed area.
  • Allow crystals to form over the next several hours or overnight.

Notes

Customize colors using different food colorings or add biodegradable glitter for extra sparkle. You can also use cookie cutters to shape the crystals by pouring the solution into them.
