Ingredients

Materials

  • 1 container Clean plastic or silicone container (e.g., ice cube tray or small bin)
  • 3-5 pieces Small plastic sea creatures (e.g., fish, whales, seals)
  • 2 cups Water
  • optional Food coloring For mimicking ocean hues
  • 1 timer Timer or stopwatch For added excitement
  • optional Salt For melting ice

Instructions

Preparation

  • Choose a clean plastic or silicone container.
  • Consider the size; smaller containers make easier-to-handle ice blocks.

Setup

  • Place small plastic sea creatures in the container.
  • Arrange them creatively for an underwater scene.

Add Water

  • Pour water over the sea creatures until they are fully submerged.
  • For added fun, mix in a few drops of food coloring to mimic ocean hues!

Freeze

  • Place the container in the freezer for several hours (preferably overnight).
  • To check the freezing progress, you can gently shake the container after a few hours (without disturbing the sea creatures).

Rescue Operation

  • Once completely frozen, remove the ice block from the container.
  • Invite kids to use their hands or tools to 'rescue' the sea creatures.
  • Use the timer for a race or fun competition!

Optional

  • Sprinkle salt to accelerate melting and observe how the salt interacts with the ice.

Notes

Customize with different toys, experiment with juice for flavored ice, and pair with ocean-related stories for enhanced learning.
