Ingredients

For the Pom Pom

  • 1 roll Yarn (any color or variety) Any acrylic or wool yarn works well.
  • 2 pieces Cardboard (to create pom pom templates) Cut into circles with holes in the center.
  • 1 pair Scissors For cutting the yarn.
  • 1 amount Tape or glue Optional for securing ends.

Instructions

Creating the Pom Pom

  • Cut two equal-sized circles from cardboard, each with a medium-sized hole in the center.
  • Place the two circles together and secure them with tape or glue to keep them aligned.
  • Take your chosen yarn and begin wrapping it around the cardboard circles.
  • Keep the wraps tight to create a fluffy pom pom. Aim for about 50-100 layers for a fuller-looking pom pom.
  • Once you’re satisfied with the thickness, use the scissors to carefully cut through the yarn along the edges of the cardboard circles.
  • Take a small piece of yarn, thread it through the middle of the cardboard, and tie it tightly around the pom pom.
  • Remove the cardboard carefully to reveal your pom pom shape.
  • Gently shake the pom pom to fluff it up, and trim any uneven edges to achieve your desired shape.

Notes

Consider adding googly eyes or sequins for personality. Use different yarn colors for a multicolored pom pom. Adjust the size of the cardboard circles to create various sizes of pom poms.
