Base Materials

  • 2 pieces Clean, empty eggshells or plastic egg molds Ensure they’re clean and dry.

Crystal Growth Materials

  • 1 cup Epsom salt or borax For crystal growth.
  • 1 cup Warm water Used to dissolve Epsom salt or borax.
  • 3 drops Food coloring (blue, purple, black) Adjust amount for desired hues.

Tools Needed

  • 1 piece Mixing bowl For mixing the solution.
  • 1 piece Stirring stick or spoon For mixing.
  • 3 pieces Paper towels or cloth For drying.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Choose Your Base: If using eggshells, carefully rinse and dry them. If using plastic molds, ensure they’re clean and dry.
  • Mix Your Solution: In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of warm water with 1 cup of Epsom salt (or borax). Stir until the salt is fully dissolved.

Adding Color

  • Incorporate Color: Add a few drops of food coloring (blue, purple, and black). Stir gently to create your desired galaxy hues.

Filling

  • Fill the Egg(s): Pour the colored solution into each eggshell or mold. Fill them about three-quarters full, giving space for crystal growth.

Crystallization

  • Set Aside: Place the filled eggs in a safe space where they can sit undisturbed. Let them sit for at least 24 hours.
  • Check for Crystals: After the waiting period, observe the eggs. You should see beautiful, shimmering crystals forming inside.

Finishing Touches

  • Remove the Eggs: Carefully peel the eggshell away if using eggshells, or gently pop the plastic eggs out of their molds.
  • Dry and Display: Allow the eggs to dry completely on paper towels before displaying them.

Notes

Experiment with different shades of food coloring for unique effects, and consider using various molds for different shapes. Ensure to store the crystal eggs in a dry place to prevent melting.
