  • 1 jar Clear glass or plastic jar with a lid
  • 5-10 drops Blue and purple food coloring
  • Water to fill 1/4 Water
  • 1 cup Baby oil or vegetable oil Ensure it's clear and light.
  • 1 generous amount Glitter (silver, gold, or any color of your choice) To mimic stars in the galaxy.
  • 1 bag Cotton balls For adding softness and texture.
  • Small decorations Small space-themed decorations (like tiny stars or planets) Optional for added charm.
  • 1 string LED string lights Optional for a magical glow.

Preparation

  • Start by cleaning your jar thoroughly.
  • Leave it to dry completely to avoid any water mixing with your liquids.

Making the Galaxy

  • Fill the jar about 1/4 of the way with water.
  • Add 5-10 drops of blue food coloring into the water. Stir to mix.
  • Slowly pour in the baby oil to fill the jar nearly to the top. Leave a little space to avoid overflow.
  • Watch as the oil and water separate, creating a beautiful layer effect!
  • Sprinkle in a generous amount of glitter to mimic the stars in the galaxy.
  • Tear small pieces of cotton balls and scatter them throughout the jar.
  • If using, place tiny stars or planets on top for a whimsical touch.
  • Secure the lid tightly. If desired, wrap LED string lights around the jar for a magical glow.
  • Shake gently to see the glitter and colors come alive!

Notes

Experiment with different food colorings for new galaxy shades. Use larger jars for a more dramatic display.
