  • 1 cup water Room temperature water for the gelatin mixture.
  • 1-2 tablespoons gelatin powder (unflavored) Use unflavored gelatin for best results.

  • 1 wax paper or baking tray To place molds on while setting.
  • 1 scissors For making holes in the suncatchers.
  • 1 craft stick or string For hanging the finished suncatchers.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Clear a clean, flat area to work on and cover surfaces with newspaper for easy cleanup.

Making the Gelatin Mixture

  • In a mixing bowl, add 1 cup of water.
  • Sprinkle 1-2 tablespoons of gelatin powder over the water and let it sit for about 5 minutes to bloom.
  • After blooming, stir the mixture until fully dissolved.

Adding Color

  • Divide the gelatin mixture into separate bowls if using multiple colors.
  • Add a few drops of food coloring to each bowl and stir until well mixed.

Pouring into Molds

  • Pour the colored gelatin into your cookie cutters or molds, filling them to your desired thickness (about 1/4 inch is ideal).

Setting and Chilling

  • Place the filled molds on a flat surface in the refrigerator.
  • Let them chill for 2-4 hours or until completely set.

Removing from Molds

  • Carefully remove the gelatin suncatchers from the molds. If using cookie cutters, gently squeeze the sides to release.

Making a Hole for Hanging

  • Use scissors or a craft stick to make a small hole at the top of each suncatcher.
  • Thread string through the holes for hanging.

Notes

Customize your suncatchers by mixing different food coloring for unique shades. You can also layer colors by allowing each layer to set slightly before adding the next. Incorporate flower petals, leaves, or glitter for added texture and design. Use seasonal cookie cutters for themed designs.
