  • a few drops Food coloring (various colors) Use any colors you like.
  • 1 tablespoon Baking soda Mix with water to create a paste.
  • small amount White vinegar Pour in for the eruption effect.
  • optional Glow-in-the-dark paint or glow stick For added glow effects.
  • 1 Funnel For easy pouring.
  • 1 Spoon or stirring stick For stirring the mixture.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Start with a clean, dry jar.
  • Fill the jar about 1/4 full of water.

Create Lava Effect

  • Use a funnel to add a few drops of food coloring to the water.
  • Stir gently to mix.
  • Slowly pour vegetable oil into the jar until it is nearly full, leaving some space at the top.
  • Observe how the oil floats above the water due to differences in density.

Eruption

  • In a separate cup, mix one tablespoon of baking soda with a small amount of water to create a paste.
  • Carefully add the baking soda paste to the jar using the funnel.
  • Pour in a small amount of white vinegar.
  • Watch as the colorful bubbling eruption begins, resembling a volcano!

Glow It Up

  • If using glow-in-the-dark paint, coat the outside of the jar for added effects.
  • Alternatively, place a glow stick inside before sealing.

Notes

Customize colors using different food coloring combinations. Experiment with sizes of containers for varied effects. Add glitter for a magical touch. Use sparkling water instead of plain water for extra fizz.
