Ingredients

For the Playdough

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons cream of tartar Can be substituted with lemon juice or omitted.
  • Gold food coloring or glitter For color customization.

Equipment

  • Medium-sized pot
  • Wooden spoon
  • Airtight container for storage To keep playdough soft.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a medium-sized pot, mix together the flour, salt, and cream of tartar. Stir until well-combined, ensuring there are no lumps.
  • Pour in the water and vegetable oil. Add several drops of gold food coloring (or glitter) to the mixture.

Cooking

  • Use a wooden spoon to mix all the ingredients together until combined. The mixture may seem lumpy at first, but keep stirring!
  • Place the pot over medium heat. Continue stirring consistently until the mixture thickens and forms a ball, pulling away from the sides of the pot.
  • Once thickened, remove the pot from heat and let it cool slightly.

Kneading and Storing

  • After a few minutes, knead the dough with your hands until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Place your playdough in an airtight container to keep it soft for future use.

Notes

Color Customization: Swap the gold food coloring for your favorite colors to create a vibrant array. Add a few drops of essential oils for added fragrance. For different textures, introduce small beads or sequins.
