- 1 bottle Clear plastic or glass bottle (with a tight seal)
- 1 cup Vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup Water Fill the bottle about one-quarter full
- 3-5 drops Food coloring Choose any color you like
- 1 tablet Alka-Seltzer tablets Cut into small pieces
- 1 optional Funnel To avoid spills when pouring
- 1 optional Glitter or small decorative items For added visual effects
Instructions
Preparation
- Clean the bottle to ensure it is clean and dry.
- Place a funnel in the bottle’s opening if you have one.
Filling the Bottle
- Fill the bottle about one-quarter full with water.
- Slowly pour vegetable oil into the bottle until it is nearly full, leaving some space at the top.
Adding Color
- Add 3-5 drops of food coloring to the bottle.
- Watch as the food coloring sinks through the oil and disperses.
Creating the Lava Effect
- Cut an Alka-Seltzer tablet into small pieces.
- Drop one piece into the bottle at a time and observe the bubbly reaction.
