Ingredients

Base Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water to create syrup
  • Food coloring (your choice) for coloring the syrup
  • Small baking dish or tray for the eruption base
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda to create the eruption effect
  • 1/2 cup vinegar to initiate the eruption
  • Optional: essential oils or flavor extracts for added aroma and taste

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water.
  • Heat on medium until the sugar dissolves completely. A clear syrup will form.
  • Remove the saucepan from heat and add a few drops of food coloring. Mix until evenly distributed. Consider adding a splash of essential oil for an enticing aroma.
  • Pour the syrup into the small baking dish or tray to create a shallow layer and allow it to cool slightly.

Eruption Setup

  • Once the syrup is cool, sprinkle 1 tablespoon of baking soda evenly across the surface.
  • In a separate cup, mix 1/2 cup of vinegar with a few drops of food coloring.
  • Slowly pour the vinegar mixture over the baking soda.

Enjoy

  • Stand back and watch as your sugar eruption begins! Enjoy the bubbling and fizzing reaction.

Notes

Customize colors, shapes, and flavors for unique eruptions. Store any remaining syrup in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. Can be done outdoors to manage mess.
