Ingredients
  

Materials

  • 2 Pipe cleaners (red or any color of your choice)
  • 1 A plate or shallow dish
  • 1 cup Boiling water
  • 3 tablespoons Borax Found in the laundry aisle
  • as desired Food coloring Optional for coloring the crystals
  • 1 A spoon for mixing
  • 1 Scissors
  • as needed String Optional for hanging

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Bend a pipe cleaner into a heart shape.
  • Twist the ends together to ensure it holds its shape.

Create the Solution

  • In a kettle, bring water to a boil.
  • In your plate, add about 3 tablespoons of Borax per cup of boiling water. Stir until fully dissolved.
  • If desired, add a few drops of food coloring to the mixture for extra flair.

Combine

  • Place your heart-shaped pipe cleaner in the Borax solution. Make sure it's fully submerged.
  • Let the setup sit undisturbed in a warm area for about 4-12 hours.

Reveal Your Crystals

  • After the waiting period, carefully remove the heart and rinse it under cold water.
  • Allow it to dry completely before displaying or gifting.

Notes

Experiment with different colors of food coloring, try creating other shapes (like stars or flowers), and consider using jars or cups instead of dishes for varied crystal growth experiences.
