Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Easy to find
  • 2 cups warm water Ensure water is warm for mixing
  • 1 cup salt Regular table salt will work
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil Adds smoothness to the dough
  • 2 tablespoons cream of tartar Optional but helps create a softer dough
  • as needed Food coloring Add according to desired color

Materials Required

  • 1 saucepan For heating the mixture
  • 1 spoon for stirring To mix ingredients
  • 1 clean surface for kneading To knead the dough once cooked

Instructions
 

Mixing Dry Ingredients

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, 1 cup of salt, and 2 tablespoons of cream of tartar (if using).

Preparing Wet Mixture

  • In a separate saucepan, pour in 2 cups of warm water and add 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil.
  • Add a few drops of food coloring into the water mixture and stir.

Combining Mixtures

  • Slowly pour the water mixture into the dry ingredients while stirring continuously.
  • Place the saucepan on low heat, stirring gently until the dough thickens and pulls away from the sides, about 3 to 5 minutes.

Kneading the Dough

  • Remove the pot from heat and let it cool slightly before kneading on a clean surface.
  • Knead until the dough is smooth and pliable.

Notes

Store the play dough in an airtight container or resealable plastic bag to keep it fresh. If it begins to dry, add a splash of water and knead.
