Ingredients
  

For the Puffy Paint Base

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Can substitute with gluten-free flour or cornstarch.
  • 1 cup water Use room temperature water for easy mixing.
  • 1 cup salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • as needed Food coloring or liquid watercolors Customize colors to your preference.

For Application

  • 1 each squeeze bottles or small bowls For ease of application.
  • 1 each wax paper or cardboard Surface for creating art.

Preparation

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and baking powder.
  • Gradually whisk in the water until smooth, ensuring there are no lumps.
  • The mixture should be thick but pourable.

Divide and Color

  • Split the mixture into separate bowls based on how many colors you want to make.
  • Add a few drops of food coloring or liquid watercolors to each bowl.
  • Stir well until the color is evenly distributed.

Application

  • Transfer the colored mixtures into squeeze bottles or small bowls.
  • If using squeeze bottles, ensure the nozzle is clear of clogs to allow for smooth application.

Create Your Art

  • Use wax paper or cardboard as your canvas.
  • Apply the puffy paint in desired patterns or designs. Press firmly to allow for the paint to puff as it dries.
  • Create layers and textures for more depth.

Drying

  • Allow your artwork to dry completely for several hours or overnight. The paint will expand and give the desired puffy effect.

Notes

Keep any leftover paint in an airtight container in the fridge for a week. Can be mixed with sand or glitter for different textures. Best to test puffy paint on a small area first on fabrics.
