Materials Needed

  • 1 secured Recycled paper (newspaper, printer paper, or old notebooks)
  • 1 secured Seeds (wildflowers, herbs, or any small seeds)
  • 1 unit Blender or food processor
  • water sufficient Water
  • 1 unit A flat surface (like a baking sheet) for drying
  • 1 unit A fine mesh screen or cloth (optional)
  • 1 unit Rolling pin (optional)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Tear the recycled paper into small pieces, aiming for 1-inch squares.
  • Place the torn paper in a bowl and cover it with water. Let it soak for at least 1-2 hours.

Blending

  • Drain excess water from the paper and place it in a blender with some fresh water.
  • Blend until it reaches a pulpy consistency—think creamy oatmeal texture.

Incorporating Seeds

  • Mix in your chosen seeds, being careful not to crush them.
  • Stir gently to disperse seeds throughout the pulp.

Shaping the Paper

  • Spread the pulp onto a flat surface.
  • Use a mesh screen or cloth to help shape the paper if desired, then flatten the pulp to about 1/4 inch thick using a rolling pin.

Drying

  • Allow the seed paper to dry completely—this may take 24-48 hours.
  • You can speed up this process by placing it in a warm, sunny spot.

Final Touches

  • Once dried, cut the paper into your desired shapes, such as cards or gift tags.
  • Your homemade seed paper is now ready to be gifted or planted!

Notes

Customize colors with food coloring in the pulp. Store seed paper in a cool, dry place and package with planting instructions for gifts. Supervise kids if using the blender.
