Ingredients

  • small amount Small plastic dinosaurs
  • 1 large container Water Enough to fully submerge dinosaurs
  • optional to taste Salt To create a faster freezing process
  • several Tools for excavation (e.g., paintbrushes, small shovels, and spoons)
  • 1-2 Bowls for water
  • a few Towels or mats For mess control

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Place the small plastic dinosaurs in the large container or tray.
  • Add water until the dinosaurs are fully submerged.
  • Optional: Add a sprinkle of salt to the water to create a faster freezing process.

Freezing

  • Carefully place the container in the freezer.
  • Allow several hours or overnight for the water to freeze solid.

Excavation Setup

  • Once frozen, remove the ice block from the container.
  • Prepare a workspace with towels or mats to catch any melting ice.

Excavation

  • Provide children with the excavation tools.
  • Encourage them to use their tools to chip away at the ice, revealing the dinosaurs inside.
  • Celebrate tiny victories as they uncover each creature!

Cleanup

  • Once excavation is complete, allow children to play with the dinosaurs or return them to the icy world.
  • Make sure to clean up any excess water or ice from the workspace.
