Ingredients
  

Materials

  • 1 jar Clear glass or plastic jar Use a transparent container for best visibility.
  • 1 can Shaving cream (whipped foam kind) This will represent the 'cloud'.
  • a few drops Food coloring (various colors) Explore different colors for a vibrant effect.
  • 2/3 full Water Fill jar until it's 2/3 full.
  • 1 each Droppers or small spoons For adding food coloring.
  • 1 tray A tray or large plate To catch any overflow.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Set up your materials in a clean area.
  • Place your jar or container on the tray to catch any spills.

Creating the Cloud

  • Pour water into the jar until it’s about 2/3 full.
  • Gently squirt a layer of shaving cream on top of the water, resembling a fluffy cloud.
  • Using the dropper or spoon, add a few drops of food coloring to the shaving cream.

Observation

  • Observe the drop of color slowly dripping down through the shaving cream and into the water.
  • Discuss how this visual demonstrates rain falling from clouds!

Experimentation

  • Repeat the process using different colors and observe how they mix.
  • Encourage creativity by asking kids to come up with their own color combinations.

Notes

Consider using whipped cream for an edible version and adding glitter for sparkle. Always supervise young children during the experiment.
