Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup fine sand Best to use fine sand for a smooth texture.
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch Helps with the texture of the kinetic sand.
  • 1/4 cup water Adjust as necessary for desired consistency.
  • 1 teaspoon dish soap Adds moisture and helps with texture.
  • Food coloring (optional) To add color to the sand.

Mixing the Ingredients

  • In a large bowl, mix the fine sand and cornstarch until well blended.
  • Slowly mix in the water and dish soap. Stir slowly to avoid splashes and ensure even distribution.

Incorporating Color (Optional)

  • If you would like your kinetic sand to have a specific color, add a few drops of food coloring at this stage.
  • Mix thoroughly until the color is consistent.

Final Touches

  • Use your hands to knead the mixture for about 2–3 minutes. The sand should feel moist but not too wet, sticking together easily.
  • If the sand is crumbly, add a small amount of water, a teaspoon at a time, until you achieve the desired consistency.

Notes

Customize with glitter for a sparkly touch. Experiment with different sands for unique results. Adjust texture by adding more water or cornstarch as needed. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a month.
