Ingredients

Candy Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsweetened Kool-Aid powder (any flavor)
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup popping candy (various flavors)
  • to taste Licorice or twizzlers (for wrapping, optional) Optional for wrapping the candy

Instructions

Preparation

  • Gather all your materials on a clean, flat surface. Cover the area with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  • In a medium saucepan, mix the Kool-Aid powder, water, sugar, and corn syrup together. Stir well until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is smooth.
  • Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir occasionally until it reaches a boil. Allow it to boil for about 3-5 minutes or until it reaches the hard crack stage (300°F or 150°C). Use a candy thermometer for precise measuring.
  • Remove the saucepan from heat and quickly stir in the butter and vanilla extract to add richness.
  • Gently fold in the popping candy, ensuring even distribution without breaking the candy too much.
  • Pour the mixture onto the parchment paper and allow it to cool slightly. Once it’s cool enough to handle, shape it into licorice strands or wrap some around twizzlers for added fun.
  • Allow the licorice to set completely at room temperature. When fully cooled, cut or break into desired bite-sized pieces.

Notes

Flavor Swaps: Use different Kool-Aid flavors for a unique taste experience with each batch. Add Sprinkles: For added visuals, sprinkle edible glitter or colored sugar before it sets. Chocolate Drizzle: Melt some chocolate and drizzle over the cooled candy for a delightful mix. Alternative Fillings: For a crunchy addition, tuck in small candies or nuts inside the licorice.
