Ingredients
  

Materials

  • 1 container Clear plastic container or jar This will be your suncatcher.
  • 1 cup Vegetable oil
  • 1/3 cup Water Fill the container about one-third full.
  • a few drops Food coloring (various colors) Mix different food colorings for unique shades.
  • optional Glitter Sprinkle for extra sparkle.
  • 2 tablets Alka-Seltzer tablets or baking soda Can substitute with baking soda and vinegar.
  • 1 funnel A small funnel (optional) Use for pouring water.
  • 1 stick Craft sticks or pipettes for stirring

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Choose a clear plastic container or jar. Ensure it's clean and dry before starting.

Adding Ingredients

  • Use a small funnel to pour water into the container, filling it about one-third full.
  • Drop in a few drops of your chosen food coloring and stir gently with a craft stick to blend the colors.
  • Slowly pour vegetable oil into the container until it almost reaches the top.
  • Sprinkle in a bit of glitter for extra sparkle and dimension.

Activating the Effect

  • Break an Alka-Seltzer tablet into a few pieces and drop them into the container.

Final Steps

  • Place your suncatcher by a sunny window and enjoy the colorful display.

Notes

For a long-lasting display, seal the container with a lid if desired, though this may stop the lava effect. Experiment with various shapes and sizes of containers.
