Ingredients
  

Materials

  • 1 jar or bottle Clear jar or bottle with a lid This will serve as the base for your suncatcher.
  • 1/4 jar Water Pour water about 1/4 of the way up the jar.
  • to fill jar Vegetable oil or mineral oil Carefully pour over the water until jar is nearly full.
  • a few drops Food coloring (various colors) Add for a vibrant effect.
  • 1 tablet Alka-Seltzer tablets (or similar effervescent tablets) Break into smaller pieces for creating bubbles.
  • optional Glitter Sprinkle in for extra sparkle.
  • 1 Plastic pipette or dropper Optional for adding food coloring.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Start with a clean, dry clear jar or bottle.
  • Pour water about 1/4 of the way up the jar.
  • Carefully pour vegetable or mineral oil over the water until the jar is nearly full.
  • Add a few drops of food coloring to the mixture.
  • Break an Alka-Seltzer tablet into smaller pieces.
  • Drop one piece into the jar and watch the magic happen as bubbles form and rise!
  • If desired, sprinkle in some glitter.
  • Place the lid on the jar securely.

Notes

Use colored glitter to match your food coloring and experiment with different oil types for unique effects. Create themed suncatchers using seasonal colors.
