Crafting Materials

  • Old crayons Old crayons (various colors) Ensure they are non-toxic if children are crafting.
  • 1 piece Craft knife or crayon peeler For removing paper wrappers.
  • 1 mold Silicone heart-shaped mold To form heart shapes.
  • 1 container Oven or microwave-safe container For melting crayons.
  • optional as desired Glitter For an extra sparkly finish.
  • 1 sheet Baking sheet or tray To place mold on during melting.
  • optional as needed Parchment paper For easier cleanup.
  • 1 pair Oven mitts For safe handling of hot items.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Start by removing the paper wrappers from your old crayons using a craft knife or crayon peeler.
  • Break the crayons into small pieces (about 1-inch chunks) for even melting.

Melting

  • Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C) or use a microwave for a quicker method.
  • Arrange crayon pieces in the heart-shaped silicone mold, mixing colors for a vibrant effect.
  • Optionally, sprinkle some glitter on top of the crayon pieces for an extra sparkly finish.
  • For the oven method, place the mold on a baking sheet and bake for about 15-20 minutes until melted.
  • For the microwave method, place the mold in the microwave and heat in 30-second intervals until melted, ensuring not to overheat.

Cooling

  • Carefully remove the mold from the oven (use oven mitts!).
  • Allow the melted crayons to cool and harden completely (about 30 minutes).
  • Once solid, gently pop the heart-shaped crayons out of the mold.

Notes

Customize colors for seasons or themes. Consider adding essential oils for a scented crayon. Use different molds for various shapes.
