  • 1 cup Vegetable oil (or mineral oil) Carefully pour to fill near the top.
  • A few drops Food coloring (various colors) Choose contrasting colors for best effect.
  • 1 tablet Alka-Seltzer tablets or effervescent tablets Break into quarters before using.
  • As desired Glitter (optional) For an extra sparkly effect.
  • 1 piece Funnel (optional) For easier pouring.
  • As desired Optional decoration items (like ribbons or stickers) To personalize your lava lamp.

Preparation

  • Start with a clean, dry bottle. Ensure that it’s free from residues to get a clear view of your lava lamp effects.
  • Using a funnel, fill your container about one-third full with water.
  • Carefully pour vegetable oil into the container, filling it near the top.
  • Add a few drops of food coloring into the water, choosing a color that contrasts beautifully with the oil.
  • Sprinkle in some glitter for an extra sparkly effect, then close the bottle tightly with the lid.
  • Break an Alka-Seltzer tablet into quarters and drop one piece into your container.

Notes
