Main Ingredients
- 1 container A clear plastic or glass container A wide-mouth jar works best.
- 1/4 container Water Used as the base for the lamp.
- 3/4 container Vegetable oil (or mineral oil) Adds density and floats on top of water.
- several drops Food coloring (various colors) Use vibrant colors for best effect.
- 1-2 tablets Alka-Seltzer tablets (or baking soda and vinegar) Used to create bubbling action.
- optional Glitter Add for an enchanting effect.
- 1 Flashlight or glow stick Used to illuminate the lamp.
Instructions
Preparation
- Start with a clean, dry container.
- Pour about 1/4 of the container with water.
- Slowly add vegetable oil until the container is about three-quarters full.
- Add several drops of food coloring.
- If using glitter, sprinkle a small amount into the lift.
- Break an Alka-Seltzer tablet into smaller pieces and drop one into the liquid.
- Place a flashlight or a glow stick underneath the container.
Notes
You can experiment with different color combinations, use other containers, and add scented oils for variations.
