  • 2 pieces Fresh apples (preferably soft, organic varieties)
  • 2 feet Twine or string (natural fibers) Add charm to the feeder
  • 1 cup Peanut butter or lard Optional but beneficial as a base for seeds
  • 1 cup Birdseed (mixed seeds) Attract various birds
  • 1 piece Butter knife For spreading the peanut butter or lard
  • 1 piece Hooks or a sturdy branch For hanging the feeder
  • 1 piece Cutting board To keep workspace tidy

Preparation

  • Wash the apples gently under cool water, wiping their skins to reveal their natural shine.
  • Use the butter knife to slice the apples in half.
  • Spread a small amount of peanut butter or lard onto the cut surfaces of the apple halves.
  • Sprinkle birdseed generously over the peanut butter or lard.
  • Cut a length of twine about two feet long and secure one end through the center of the apple, tying a simple knot.
  • Tie the other end to a branch or hook.
  • Find a suitable spot outside to hang the feeder.

Enjoying the Feeder

  • Observe the feeder and enjoy the presence of birds that come to visit.

Notes

For longevity, consider adding a thin layer of melted lard before spreading peanut butter. You can also use different fruits and decorate the feeder to attract more birds.
