  • as desired natural food coloring Optional for vibrant colors.

Supplies

  • as needed wax paper or parchment paper
  • 1 paintbrush Optional for applying coloring.
  • 1 pair scissors For trimming the final shapes.
  • 1 hole punch Optional for making holes for hanging.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a saucepan, combine the water, cornstarch, vinegar, and glycerin.
  • Stir continuously over medium heat until the mixture begins to thicken and becomes clear.
  • If desired, add natural food coloring for additional vibrancy and mix until evenly distributed.

Creating the Shapes

  • Take your wax or parchment paper and lay it flat on a workspace.
  • Use a paintbrush or a spoon to spread a thin layer of the mixture onto the paper, forming your desired shapes (like circles, hearts, or flowers).
  • Create multiple layers for thicker sun catchers.

Drying Time

  • Allow the mixture to air dry for about 24 hours or until completely hardened.
  • Optionally, place the creation in a sunny window to speed up the drying process.

Final Touches

  • Once dry, carefully peel the sun catchers from the paper.
  • Use scissors to trim any uneven edges if necessary.
  • Optionally, use a hole punch at the top for hanging.

Notes

Tips: Customize colors with natural agents like beet juice or turmeric. Experiment with different shapes using cookie cutters. Incorporate glow-in-the-dark paint for unique effects. Store any leftover mixture in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. These sun catchers are intended for indoor use only.
