  • 1 teaspoon Salt (optional for interesting melting effects) Sprinkle on ice during play.
  • 2-3 each Small bowls or cups for additional small items To hold supplementary materials.
  • 1-2 each Plastic spoons or scoops (optional) For digging into the ice.

Preparation

  • Fill a clear plastic container with water until it's about half full.
  • Mix in food coloring to create ocean-themed colors, using blue and green for best results.
  • Place ocean-themed toys and shells into the water.
  • Carefully place the container in the freezer for several hours or until completely frozen.

Set Up for Play

  • Once the ice is solid, remove the container from the freezer and let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes.
  • Set up a safe play area with small bowls or cups for any additional materials or props.

Enjoy Sensory Play

  • Allow children to use their hands or spoons to dig into the ice and discover the hidden treasures.
  • Discuss the melting process with the children as the ice begins to thaw.
