Ingredients

For the sensory bottle

  • 1 each Clear plastic bottle with a tight-sealing lid e.g., empty water bottle
  • 3/4 full Blue and clear liquid (water and blue food coloring) Adjust amount based on bottle size
  • 2 tbsp Glitter (blue and silver preferred) Adjust more or less based on desired sparkle
  • 1 handful Small ocean-themed decorations (e.g., shells, starfish) Feel free to customize
  • 1 tsp Glycerin (optional) For slower movement of glitter
  • 1 each Funnel For pouring liquids into the bottle
  • 1 each Hot glue gun (optional) To secure the lid

Instructions

Preparation

  • Clean the Bottle: Rinse and dry the plastic bottle thoroughly to remove any labels and residue.

Assembly

  • Fill the Bottle: Pour water into the bottle using a funnel until it's about three-quarters full.
  • Add Color: Mix in a few drops of blue food coloring to give your water an oceanic hue. Adjust until desired color is reached.
  • Add Glitter: Sprinkle in the glitter to mimic the sparkle of sunlight on the waves. Use both blue and silver for added depth.
  • Incorporate Ocean Decor: Carefully add your small ocean-themed decorations using the funnel.
  • Seal the Bottle: Fill remaining space with more water and secure the lid tightly. Use a hot glue gun around the inside of the lid for extra security (optional).
  • Optional Glycerin: If you want to slow down the movement of the glitter, add a teaspoon of glycerin before sealing.

Notes

Consider making several bottles for themed activities. Use as calming tools in classrooms or therapy settings. Experiment with colors, scents and variations.
