Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Can be substituted with gluten-free flour for a gluten-free option.
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1 cup salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons cream of tartar Can use baking powder as a substitute in a pinch.
  • as needed Food coloring (pastel shades of your choice) Adjust color intensity as desired.
  • as needed Essential oils or flavor extracts Optional for additional scent.

Instructions

Prepare the Dough Mixture

  • In a large pot, mix together the flour, salt, vegetable oil, and cream of tartar.
  • Slowly add the warm water, stirring continuously to combine.

Cook the Mixture

  • Place the pot over medium heat. Keep stirring until the mixture thickens and begins to form a ball (about 3-5 minutes).
  • The dough should become less sticky and easy to handle.

Cool and Divide

  • Once the dough pulls away from the sides of the pot, remove it from heat. Let it cool for a few minutes.
  • Once slightly cooled, divide the dough into equal portions based on how many colors you want to create.

Color Your Dough

  • In a bowl, add a few drops of food coloring to each dough portion and knead until the color is evenly distributed.

Optional Scent Addition

  • If using, add a few drops of essential oils or extracts to each portion, kneading again to incorporate the scent.

Notes

Store the dough in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. If the dough is too sticky, knead in a little extra flour until reaching the desired consistency. Adding glitter can enhance the visual appeal.
