Peeps Microwave Experiment
A fun and educational experiment that showcases the unique properties of marshmallow Peeps as they expand and puff up in the microwave.
Ingredients
Materials
- 3-5 pieces Marshmallow Peeps (any color and shape)
- 1 piece Microwave-safe plate
- 1 piece Microwave
- Optional: Toothpicks, chocolate, or graham crackers for s’more variations Feel free to get creative!
Instructions
Preparation
- Choose a clean, microwave-safe area, and place your microwave-safe plate on the counter.
- Place 3-5 Peeps on the microwave-safe plate. Make sure they are spaced evenly apart to allow for expansion.
Cooking
- Set the microwave for 30 seconds on high. Keep an eye on the Peeps as they begin to heat up!
- Observe the Peeps expand and puff up. You’ll see their shapes morph and get airy – it’s an amusing sight!
- When the Peeps have reached their maximum size (usually around 30-45 seconds), pause the microwave to avoid burning.
Finishing Up
- Carefully remove the plate from the microwave (it will be hot!) and allow the Peeps to cool for a minute before handling.
Notes
Consider adding different flavored Peeps for varied results, or making S’mores with melted chocolate and graham crackers. This is a great activity to enjoy with family or friends and can even be turned into a fun competition!
