Ingredients

Bioplastic Mixture

  • 1 cup water Room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon glycerin Can be substituted with vegetable oil
  • Pink food coloring Amount as desired

Tools and Supplies

  • mixing bowl
  • spoon
  • 1 sheet wax paper
  • cookie cutter shapes or templates For shaping the suncatchers.
  • paintbrush Optional, for decorating.
  • Mod Podge or white glue Optional, for extra shine.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Clear a flat surface and cover it with wax paper to catch any spills and make clean-up easier.

Making the Mixture

  • In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of water, 1 tablespoon of cornstarch, 1 tablespoon of vinegar, and 1 tablespoon of glycerin.
  • Stir the mixture well until all the ingredients are smooth and fully combined.
  • Add pink food coloring, adjusting to your preferred shade.

Cooking the Mixture

  • Pour the mixture into a saucepan and heat over medium-low heat.
  • Stir constantly as the mixture thickens; this should take about 3–5 minutes.
  • Once it reaches a gel-like consistency, remove it from the heat and allow it to cool slightly.

Shaping the Suncatchers

  • While the mixture is still warm, pour it onto the wax paper. Use a spatula to spread it into your desired thickness.
  • Place cookie cutters on top to create shapes or simply use a knife to cut desired designs.
  • Allow the suncatcher to cool and harden for at least 24 hours.

Final Touches

  • Once fully set, gently peel the suncatchers off the wax paper.
  • If desired, paint additional designs with Mod Podge or white glue for more texture and shine.

Notes

Customize colors by mixing different food colorings or using natural dyes. Experiment with cookie cutter shapes and add glitters or natural elements for unique textures. Use string or fishing line to hang suncatchers for a stained-glass effect.
