Ingredients

Materials

  • 1 bottle clean plastic bottle (empty and dry)
  • 1 bottle Black paint (acrylic or spray)
  • 1 bottle White paint (acrylic)
  • 1 bottle Yellow paint (acrylic)
  • 1 pair Scissors
  • 1 tube Craft glue or hot glue gun
  • 1 pack Googly eyes (optional) For decoration
  • 1 sheet Black cardstock or felt (for wings and beak)
  • 1 set Paintbrushes
  • 1 sheet Old newspaper or a drop cloth (to protect your workspace)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Lay down the old newspaper or drop cloth to avoid mess.
  • Gather all your materials and tools within reach.

Painting the Bottle

  • Begin by painting the entire plastic bottle with black paint.
  • Allow the first coat to dry completely, usually about 30 minutes.
  • For better coverage, apply a second coat if necessary.

Creating the Penguin's Face

  • Once the black paint is dry, use white paint to create a belly—simply paint an oval in the center.
  • Add two googly eyes above the white belly for an adorable touch.

Crafting the Beak and Wings

  • Cut out a small triangle from black cardstock or felt for the beak.
  • For the wings, cut two wing shapes from the black material.
  • Attach the beak just above the belly and glue the wings on each side.

Adding Finishing Touches

  • Use yellow paint to create feet at the bottom of the bottle.
  • Let everything dry completely before displaying your penguin.

Notes

Consider creating a whole penguin-themed display with multiple penguins of varying sizes. Pair this craft with a storytime session where you read books about penguins. Use your penguin as a fun prop for themed parties or events.
