Materials

  • Assorted colors Pony beads (various colors)
  • 1 piece Wire or fishing line (for hanging)
  • 1 piece Baking sheet
  • 1 piece Parchment paper
  • 1 unit Oven (optional)
  • 1 unit Cookie cutter (for shaping)
  • 1 pair Scissors
  • Optional Paint, glitter, or other embellishments

Instructions

Preparation

  • Step 1: Preheat Oven (Optional) - If you plan to melt the pony beads for a more polished look, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Step 2: Prepare Your Workspace - Lay down a baking sheet lined with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  • Step 3: Arrange Your Beads - Choose a shape to form, like a heart, star, or rainbow. Use a cookie cutter to outline your design on the parchment paper. Fill in the shape with pony beads, making sure they are snug but not overcrowded.

Melting the Beads (Optional)

  • Step 4: Melting the Beads - Carefully place the baking sheet in the preheated oven. Watch closely as beads begin to melt—this usually takes about 15-20 minutes. Once melted, remove from the oven and let it cool completely.

Assembly

  • Step 5: Attach Hanging Mechanism - Cut a piece of wire or fishing line to your desired length. Poke a small hole at the top of your suncatcher (once cooled) and thread the wire through. Tie a knot to secure.
  • Step 6: Hang and Enjoy - Choose a sunny spot, hang your suncatcher, and watch the light create colorful patterns!

Notes

Tips & Variations: Create seasonal suncatchers (e.g., pastels for spring, warm hues for fall). Use a variety of cookie cutters to make different designs. Add layers of beads for a more dimensional look. Experiment by adding glitter or paint for some extra flair.
