  • food coloring Optional for vibrant appearance.
  • cornstarch For dusting to prevent sticking.

Preparation

  • Clean your countertop and gather all the materials.
  • Dust your workspace lightly with cornstarch to prevent sticking.

Melting and Mixing

  • In a microwave-safe bowl, heat the gum base in short bursts of 15-20 seconds until fully melted.
  • Stir well after each heating to ensure even melting.
  • Once melted, add the powdered sugar and corn syrup to the gum base and stir until the mixture starts to come together.
  • If desired, add food coloring at this stage for a vibrant appearance.

Flavoring and Adding Pop Rocks

  • Add the flavor extract to the mixture, ensuring it’s evenly distributed.
  • Gently fold in the Pop Rocks, being careful not to crush them.

Shaping the Gum

  • Let the gum cool slightly until it is safe to handle.
  • Knead the gum until it reaches a smooth, pliable texture.
  • Shape the gum into small balls or roll it out for larger pieces.

Finishing Touches

  • Lightly dust the gum with cornstarch to prevent sticking.
  • Store in an airtight container to keep it fresh.

Experiment with different flavor extracts and consider dipping the finished gum in extra Pop Rocks for an additional crunch. Store the gum in an airtight container at room temperature to keep it fresh.
