Puffy Paint

A fun and easy way to make colorful, textured puffy paint from common household ingredients, perfect for art projects and crafts.

Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour All-purpose flour
  • 1 cup water Room temperature
  • 1 cup salt Regular table salt
  • 2 tablespoons baking powder
  • as needed drops food coloring Various colors

Supplies

  • 1 each mixing bowl
  • 1 each whisk or spoon
  • 1 each squeeze bottles or ziplock bags For application

Instructions
 

Mixing Dry Ingredients

  • In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of flour, 1 cup of salt, and 2 tablespoons of baking powder.
  • Whisk the mixture together until well blended.

Adding Water

  • Gradually add 1 cup of water to the dry ingredients.
  • Stir continuously until the mixture becomes smooth and free of lumps.

Dividing and Coloring

  • Divide the mixture into several bowls (as many as desired for different colors).
  • Add a few drops of food coloring to each bowl.
  • Mix thoroughly until you achieve your desired color intensity.

Transferring to Bottles

  • Scoop each colored mixture into squeeze bottles or ziplock bags.
  • If using ziplock bags, seal them tightly and snip a small corner to create a makeshift applicator.

Application and Heating

  • Use the bottles or bags to apply puffy paint onto your chosen surface (paper, fabric, etc.).
  • To make the paint puff up, place the artwork in the microwave for about 30-45 seconds (watch carefully to prevent burning).

Notes

Add glitter for sparkle, experiment with different types of food coloring, and use various surfaces for different textures. Store leftovers in airtight containers in the fridge for up to a week.
