Preparation

  • Begin by measuring one cup of flour into your mixing bowl. Notice the smooth texture as it spills out.
  • Add one cup of water slowly, mixing gently using a whisk or spoon until you achieve a smooth consistency.
  • Sprinkle in two teaspoons of salt if you wish to extend the life of your paint. This step is optional but can be beneficial.
  • Add one teaspoon of baking powder and blend it in, noticing tiny bubbles forming.
  • Slowly add drops of food coloring or liquid watercolors to your mix, observing how the vibrant hues dance and blend.
  • Pour or spoon the paint into small containers or squeeze bottles.
  • Let your puffy paint sit for a bit before using.

Notes

Store leftover paint in an airtight container in the refrigerator and use within a week for the best results. If you notice water collecting on top of stored paint, stir before use.
