Materials for Craft

  • 1 container Baking tray or shallow container A suitable container to hold the ice cubes.
  • 1 cup Ice cubes or ice splinters Ice will create the icy terrain for the race.
  • 1 toys Small toy race cars These will be used for racing.
  • to taste optional Salt Enhances sensory experience and melts ice faster.
  • to taste optional Food coloring For creating colorful ice effects.
  • 1 cup Water Used to create a slick road.
  • 1 item Plastic shovel For scooping and clearing ice.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Fill the baking tray or shallow container with ice cubes.
  • If desired, sprinkle a little salt over the ice cubes.

Creating the Racing Scene

  • Pour a small amount of water over the ice cubes to create a slick road.
  • Add food coloring if desired and swirl gently for a marbled effect.

Set the Cars

  • Place the small toy race cars at one end of the icy surface.
  • Encourage kids to position the cars in different starting spots.

The Race

  • Invite children to use the plastic shovel to clear pathways in the ice.
  • Encourage them to race their cars and interact creatively.

Notes

Suggestions include playing with different food coloring mixtures, adding obstacles, and trying different vehicles. This craft can also be done outdoors for added fun.
