- 1 cup water Boiling water is required.
- ½ cup borax For crystal formation.
- 1 Clear glass jar or container To hold the snowman and solution.

- as needed String or yarn To suspend the snowman.
- as needed Food coloring (various colors) For creating vibrant colors.
- 1 Wooden skewer or stick To support the snowman.
- 1 Scissors For cutting the pipe cleaners and string.
- 1 Small plate or tray To catch drips during the process.
Instructions
Preparation
- Shape the pipe cleaners into a snowman form: one larger ball for the body and one smaller for the head.
- Use white pipe cleaners for the body, and optionally add a colorful scarf or hat with colored pipe cleaners.
Assembly
- Tie a piece of string to the top of the snowman’s head.
- Use a wooden skewer or stick to suspend your snowman in the glass jar, making sure it doesn’t touch the bottom or sides.
Solution Preparation
- In a separate bowl, boil one cup of water.
- Slowly mix in ½ cup of borax, stirring continuously until dissolved. The solution should be clear.
Adding Color
- If desired, divide the solution into smaller jars and add a few drops of food coloring to create different colors.
Final Assembly
- Carefully pour the borax solution into the jar, ensuring your snowman is suspended properly.
Crystallization
- Place the jar in a cool, dry place and leave it undisturbed for 24 hours to allow crystals to form around your snowman.
Notes
Experiment with different food coloring combinations for unique effects. You can also use glitter or sequins for added sparkle. For smaller projects, try using mini pipe cleaners.
