  • 2 tablespoons baking soda

  • 1 small pots or containers For mixing the solutions
  • 1 spoon or stirring stick
  • 1 heat source For boiling water if needed

Instructions
 

Preparing the Sugar Solution

  • In a pot, mix 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1 cup of water.
  • Heat on medium until the sugar dissolves completely, stirring gently until the solution is clear.
  • Stir in a few drops of food coloring until the desired hue is achieved.
  • Carefully pour the hot sugar solution onto a flat dish and allow it to cool.

Creating Baking Soda Crystals

  • In a separate container, mix 2 tablespoons of baking soda with 1 cup of warm water. Stir well.
  • Mix in food coloring to this solution as well to create different colors.
  • Pour this solution onto an empty plate or dish to create colorful crystal formations.

Observe the Magic

  • Allow both solutions to sit undisturbed for several hours or overnight for crystals to form.
  • Once the crystals have formed, carefully remove them with a spoon or your fingers and display them as colorful decorations.

Notes

Customize colors using different food colorings. Experiment with unique sugar varieties for different crystal appearances. Adult supervision is recommended when handling hot liquids.
