Ingredients
  

Playdough Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Basic ingredient for the dough.
  • 2 cups water Liquid component to mix with dry ingredients.
  • 1 cup salt Helps to preserve the playdough.
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil Adds smoothness to the dough.
  • 4 teaspoons cream of tartar Helps the playdough maintain its texture.
  • food coloring (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple) Used to color the playdough.

  • saucepan For cooking the dough.
  • spoon for stirring To mix the dough while cooking.
  • wax paper or baking sheet for cooling To prevent sticking while cooling.

Preparation

  • In a mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, vegetable oil, and cream of tartar.
  • Stir in water until the mixture is smooth and free of lumps.

Cooking the Dough

  • Divide the dough evenly into six portions for each color of the rainbow.
  • Drop food coloring into each portion. Start with a few drops and mix until you reach your desired shade.
  • Transfer each colored mixture into a saucepan and cook over medium heat.
  • Stir continuously until the dough begins to thicken and forms a ball, approximately 3-5 minutes. The dough should feel slightly sticky but manageable.

Finishing Touches

  • Remove the dough from the heat and let it cool slightly.
  • Once cool enough to handle, knead each colored dough on a clean surface or wax paper until smooth.
  • Layer each of the colored dough pieces together and gently roll or shape them into a rainbow form.

Notes

For added sensory experiences, you can incorporate glitter, sand, or beads. Store in an airtight container to keep your playdough fresh for weeks.
