Ingredients
  

Dough Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup salt
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • food coloring (various colors) For coloring the dough

Equipment

  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 cooking pot
  • 1 wooden spoon
  • 1 wax paper or baking sheet For cooling

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In the mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, 1 cup of salt, and 2 tbsp of cornstarch. Mix well to ensure no lumps remain.

Cooking

  • In the cooking pot, combine 2 cups of water and 2 tbsp of vegetable oil. Heat over medium-low heat until warm, but not boiling.
  • Gradually add the dry mixture to the pot, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon. Cook for about 3-5 minutes, until the mixture thickens and forms a ball.

Cooling and Coloring

  • Remove from heat and transfer the dough to a wax paper or baking sheet to cool.
  • Once cool, divide the dough into equal portions based on how many colors you’d like. Add a few drops of food coloring to each portion and knead until well blended.

Playing and Storing

  • Enjoy your rainbow sensory foam dough by sculpting, molding, and creating fun shapes!
  • Store in an airtight container to keep it fresh for future play.

Notes

For scented dough, add a few drops of essential oils. Consider incorporating sand, glitter, or small beads for extra sensory stimulation. Encourage children to mix primary colors to create secondary colors as part of a fun science lesson.
