Ingredients

For the Salt Dough

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Use the standard variety.
  • 1 cup salt Table salt works well.
  • 1 cup warm water Ensure it's warm, not hot.

For Crafting and Decoration

  • 1 mixing bowl For mixing the dough.
  • 1 baking sheet To bake the gloves.
  • 1 wax paper To line the baking sheet.
  • 1 rolling pin To roll out the dough.
  • 1 cookie cutter (optional) For shaping the gloves.
  • 1 acrylic paint For decorating the gloves.
  • 1 paintbrush For applying the paint.

Instructions

Prepare the Salt Dough

  • In a mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour and 1 cup of salt. Slowly add 1 cup of warm water.
  • Mix until it becomes a sticky dough, then knead it on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.

Forming the Handprint Gloves

  • Use a rolling pin to roll the dough out to about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Place your hand flat on the dough and press down gently to create an impression. You can also use a cookie cutter to shape the dough into glove forms.
  • Use a knife to cut around the handprint, ensuring you leave enough space for the glove shape. Make two holes at the top of each glove for hanging.

Baking

  • Preheat the oven to 200°F (93°C). Place the gloves on a baking sheet lined with wax paper. Bake for 2-3 hours or until completely dry.

Decorating

  • Once cooled, use acrylic paint to add color and designs to your gloves. Let them dry completely.

Notes

Experiment with textures by adding sand or cornstarch. Use non-toxic paint for decoration and consider sealing it with a clear sealant once dry.
