Instructions
Preparation
- In a mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour and 1 cup of salt.
- Slowly add 2 cups of water to the dry mixture.
- Use your hands to mix until a dough forms; it should be smooth and not sticky.
Kneading the Dough
- Transfer the dough to a clean surface.
- Knead for about 5 minutes until you achieve a soft and elastic texture.
Shaping the Ornaments
- Using a rolling pin, roll the dough to about 1/4 inch thick.
- Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out your ornaments.
- Place the cut-out shapes on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Before baking, use a straw or skewer to create a small hole at the top of each heart.
Baking
- Preheat your oven to 200°F (90°C).
- Bake the ornaments for about 2-3 hours, or until they are completely hardened.
Cooling and Decorating
- Allow the ornaments to cool completely.
- Once cooled, paint and embellish as desired.
Notes
For scented ornaments, add essential oils to the dough. Mix in food coloring for vibrant colors. Use items like leaves or lace for texture patterns. Experiment with various cookie cutter shapes.
