  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup salt Coarse or table salt can be used.
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Materials Needed

  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 baking sheet
  • 1 oven Set to 250°F (120°C) for baking.
  • 1 rolling pin
  • 1 cookie cutters Various shapes for cutting dough.
  • 1 decorative items Such as paints, glitter, ribbons, etc.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, 1 cup of salt, and 2 cups of water.
  • Stir in 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil until the mixture is smooth.
  • Knead the dough until it is pliable and not sticky.

Shaping

  • On a clean, floured surface, roll the dough to about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes of your choice.
  • Make a small hole at the top of each ornament for hanging using a straw or toothpick.

Baking

  • Preheat the oven to 250°F (120°C).
  • Place the ornaments on a baking sheet and bake for 2-3 hours or until hard and dry.

Finishing

  • Allow the ornaments to cool completely before painting or decorating.

Notes

Customize colors by adding food coloring to the dough. Consider sealing decorated ornaments with a clear acrylic sealer.
