  • Cookie cutters (turkey shape optional)
  • Baking sheet
  • Paints (acrylic or tempera)
  • Paintbrush

Instructions

Prepare the Salt Dough

  • In a mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour and 1 cup of salt.
  • Gradually add 1 cup of water while stirring until a dough forms.
  • Once combined, knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth.

Shape Your Turkeys

  • Use a rolling pin to flatten the dough to about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Use cookie cutters to create turkey shapes or freehand your design!
  • Use smaller tools to make feathers, eyes, and other turkey features (you can use a toothpick or a skewer).

Bake the Ornaments

  • Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C).
  • Place your shaped turkeys on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake for 2–3 hours until they are hard and completely dry.

Decorate

  • Allow the baked ornaments to cool completely.
  • Use paints to decorate your turkeys. Add glitter for sparkle or googly eyes for fun.
  • Once the paint is dry, attach a ribbon or twine for hanging.

Notes

Customize colors and incorporate natural elements like leaves for added texture. You can create an edible version by substituting the flour with ground oats.
