  • 1 sheet Thick paper (like watercolor or mixed media paper) Provides a sturdy base for the project
  • 2 small bowls Small bowls for mixing colors To prepare color mixtures
  • 1 piece A paintbrush or dropper For applying color to the salt
  • 1 bottle White glue School glue works well
  • 1 piece A drop cloth or newspaper To protect your work surface

Instructions

Preparation

  • Begin by gathering all your materials neatly on your workspace, finding a comfortable spot where you feel relaxed.
  • Mix your watercolors or food colors in small bowls to create a warm palette of your choices.

Creating the Artwork

  • Use your paintbrush to apply white glue to the paper in your desired flower shapes.
  • Sprinkle fine salt generously over the glue while it is still wet.
  • Once you've coated the glue with salt, admire your work before shaking off the excess salt.
  • Use your dropper or paintbrush to apply your liquid color onto the salt, watching the colors spread.
  • Allow your salt painting flowers to dry completely.

Notes

Store your salt paintings in a flat, dry place away from moisture. A protective frame can help preserve them. You can peel off the salt from the paper to create new designs if desired.
