Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup baking soda Main ingredient for the crystal structure.
  • 0.5 cup white vinegar Reaction agent that causes fizzing.
  • 0.5 cup water Used to thin the mixture.
  • 10-20 drops essential oils Choose your favorite scent.
  • as needed drops food coloring Optional, to color the hearts.

Supplies

  • 1 set heart-shaped molds Use to shape the crystals.
  • 1 bowl mixing bowl For mixing the ingredients.
  • 1 utensil spoon or whisk For stirring the mixture.
  • 1 sheet parchment paper For drying the crystals.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of baking soda and 1/2 cup of white vinegar. The mixture will fizz and bubble—this is normal! Stir until smooth.
  • Slowly stir in 1/2 cup of water. Add your chosen essential oils (10-20 drops) for fragrance. If desired, mix in a few drops of food coloring.

Molding

  • Carefully pour the mixture into heart-shaped molds. Tap the molds gently to remove air bubbles.

Drying

  • Allow the molds to sit at room temperature for 24 hours, or until completely dry. Once dry, gently remove the hearts from the molds.
  • Place the crystal hearts on parchment paper to ensure they don’t stick and let them breathe for an additional few hours.

Notes

Experiment with various essential oils for unique blends, combine food coloring for colorful hearts, and package them nicely for gifts. Store in a cool dry place in an airtight container for longer-lasting scent.
