Sea-Themed Ornament
Craft a unique sea-themed ornament using air-dry clay, seashells, and paint to bring the charm of the ocean into your home.
Ingredients
Materials
- 1 pack Air-dry clay or polymer clay Choose air-dry for no baking, or polymer clay for baking.
- optional Seashells and beach sand For texture and decoration.
- various Acrylic paint Choose colors that evoke the ocean.
- 1 each Paintbrush For applying paint to the ornament.
- 1 String or ribbon For hanging the ornament.
- 1 each Rolling pin For rolling out the clay.
- 1 each Craft knife or cookie cutter To cut ornament shapes.
- 1 bottle Mod Podge or sealant Optional for sealing the finished ornament.
Instructions
Preparation
- Clear a flat surface and cover it with parchment paper or a plastic sheet.
- Gather all your materials to have them on hand.
Shaping
- Take a portion of air-dry clay and knead it until soft.
- Roll it out with a rolling pin to about 1/4 inch thick.
- Use a craft knife or cookie cutter to cut out your desired ornament shape.
Adding Beach Elements
- While the clay is still pliable, press seashells or sprinkle beach sand into the surface for texture.
- Create patterns or shapes that evoke the seaside.
Drying the Ornament
- Place your ornament on a piece of wax paper to dry according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- Smooth any rough edges if needed once dried completely (usually a day for air-dry clay).
Painting and Finishing
- Use acrylic paints to color your ornament with ocean-inspired colors.
- Once paint is dry, apply a coat of Mod Podge or sealant for durability and sheen.
Hanging Mechanism
- Cut a piece of string or ribbon and attach it to the top of your ornament to hang.
Notes
Customize shapes using cookie cutters in various sea shapes (starfish, shells). Experiment with materials like textured fabrics or glitter. Use found beach treasures to enhance your design.
